“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” – Albert Einstein
What you focus on you get more of. It doesn´t matter if it´s positive or negative.
What do we mean by focus? Focus is the combination of thoughts and emotions. Your subconscious mind doesn´t know the difference between fantasy and the here and now reality. It does not understand future and past, yes or no…The subconscious mind only reacts on thoughts and feelings, which are your focus. That means that you can worry about things that have not happened yet, and still you can feel uncomfortable. A knot in the stomach, heart beating fast, tight breathing, sweat in hands etc. Even though you logically know that what you are thinking of is not happening here and now, your body (our bodies are subconsciously driven) believes that you are actually experiencing what you are focusing on right now.
Thought + Emotion = FOCUS
Lets say a person worries about doing a speech as his best friends wedding – He creates mental pictures, sounds, smells, taste and feelings (our five senses). By recalling this event adrenaline starts pumping through the system and takes his body in a “fight or flight” response – blood escapes vital organs and rushes to arms and legs so he can fight or run! Why? It was just a thought? A thought that in milliseconds created pictures, sounds, smell, taste and feelings that subconsciously created anxiety in that person.
So what happens when you think about someone you love? Someone that turns you on? What mental pictures, sounds, smell, taste and feelings are you creating with your imagination then? And how does your body physically react to that? They are just thoughts? Thoughts have a profound effect on our physiology!
The more you focus on what you want in your life, the more you program your subconscious mind and condition your brain to “attract” that which you focus on.
The more you focus on what you DON`T want in your life, the more you program your subconscious mind and condition your brain to “attract” that which you focus on.
Our brain is like the most obedient and loyal assistant that have served you all your life. It reacts to every thought you think as a command, a wish to which it WILL do everything in it´s power to make come through. In the metaphysic world they call this the Law of Attraction. We could as well call it The Law of The obedient Subconscious.
OK, so how do we focus on what we do want?
I work with a lot of people, when I ask them the question: “what do you want in life?” 90% of them immediately answers back all the things they don´t want. When I tell them that they just told me about all the things they don´t want, they actually struggle to see that, because they thought that they where focusing on what they wanted. If you have a tomato plant seed…you plant that seed…water it (focus)…can you really expect to get apples? No of course not. You expect to get tomatoes.
To live a “joyful” life, we have to start focusing on what we want, because our thoughts creates our reality!
Christer worries about his wedding speech, he imagines forgetting the words, people laughing of him… his hearts starts beating faster. He STOPS! Then he asks himself “How do I want to feel? What would happen if it went perfect? How would I feel then?” These questions creates new feelings. Good feelings! When Christer continues to focus on these new mental images, his brain starts integrating new neurological signals that supports and reinforces the chance of giving a successful speech.
Some people say they don´t want to expect succeeding because then they can get disappointed. Well, they are still expecting…expecting things to go bad…and more often than not they do. But the best thing is…we all have a choice. We can CHOOSE to expect the worst or the best.

Here is an exercise to use in any situation where you need to focus on what you want. It is also great to use at the start or end of the day, so that you can “program” your subconscious to keep a positive focus throughout your coming day.
1. Imagine how you and/or others are behaving when everything happens the way you want (your day, your goal, etc). How is your body posture, facial expressions, etc. Make it as attractive and “feel good” as possible.
2. What are you saying to yourself when your “goal” is achieved? What are others saying about/to you?
3. How do you feel when your goal is achieved?

You are the only one that think your thoughts. You have control over your thinking. Nobody else has a remote control to your thoughts. You have. You can´t change the past by focusing on the “bad” things that happened. Then you will just get more of that. Here and now is the only place were you have the power to create your future. Your thoughts are seeds. Which seeds do you choose to plant in your garden?
